January 2020 will be arriving in just a few days.  Personally this year has passed fairly fast.  We have all been involved in ways that our communities safely exist or by encouraging improvement of details of the social determinants of health.  Communities have had challenges dealing with measles outbreaks, THC and vaping hazards, the continuing suicide and opioid epidemic, diesel fuel contributing to air pollution, healthy lifestyles and the list goes on.

Early in the year the organization was invited to meet with the National Association of County and City Health officials, NACCHO and ASTHO joining forces meeting with our national legislators to champion for increased funding to CDC, among other priorities.

Denver, Colorado was the location of our annual meeting in August.  Dr. Ned Colonge President and CEO of the Colorado Trust, Pam Aaltonen President of the American Public Health Association and Dr Brian Shiozawa who had been appointed by President Trump to oversee the operations of HHS Region 8 were our keynote speakers.

August 18-20, 2020 will be the location of the Annual meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Plan to navigate the Rapids moving your board of health into the future.

Michael “Doc” Holliday, Christina Dokter, and Judy Sartucci will be going off the board.  Thank you for your efforts to further the efforts of NALBOH.  Dr Diane Gerlach is taking charge as the incoming President.  The responsibility of heading this organization is in good hands.  Thank you for the opportunity of serving you and the organization.    Continue to champion for your communities.
