This week, reports surfaced of the reorganization of the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).

The changes reportedly divide policy work into four main groups:

  • An opioid coordinating group covers prescription painkillers, heroin, synthetic opioids and methamphetamine; its 18 staff include some detailed from other agencies.
  • A cocaine coordinating group, which also deals with marijuana, also has roughly 18 staff, including agency detailees.
  • An interdiction coordinator that has not been named.
  • A public health group, which has one full time policy staffer and two staffers detailed from the Department of Agriculture, as well as positions for eight detailees that haven't been filled yet.

In addition, Anne Hazlett, assistant to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) secretary for rural development, will be moving to ONDCP as senior adviser for rural affairs.
